How to stick to a skincare routine

Knowing what to do is rarely the problem; doing it on the fourth tired Tuesday is. This guide is about the mechanics of consistency — reminders, check-offs, a routine short enough to finish — and how SkinCare AI is built around them.

Make the routine finishable

Consistency comes from a list you can complete on your worst day, not your best. Keep the core to a handful of steps and mark the rest optional. In SkinCare AI an optional step shows as optional in Today's plan, so a two-step evening still counts as showing up.

Fix the times, not the intention

"I'll do it before bed" is an intention; "9:00 PM" is a plan. Two local reminders — one AM, one PM — at times attached to things you already do are enough. The reminder should open straight onto the next step, so there is no gap between the nudge and the action.

See the streak, forgive the gap

A visible run of completed days is motivating; a missed day that erases everything is demoralising. The home screen shows your day streak and a week strip, and a missed evening is just an empty slot, not a reset of your knowledge or your shelf. Pick the routine back up the next reminder.

Give yourself a reason to keep going

Feedback keeps habits alive. A face scan every week or two — in similar light — shows how water, oil and redness compare with last time, and the progress panel puts it in one line: "Looking up — water & oil improved". That is not a medical result, but it is the kind of small evidence that makes tonight's five minutes feel worth it.

This guide and the app offer general skincare wellness guidance, not medical advice. Skin scan readings are not a diagnosis. If you have a skin concern, consult a dermatologist.

Steps

A consistency setup you can complete in one evening.

  1. Trim your routine to the core

In the Routine tab, keep the steps you will do even when tired. Mark the rest optional so a short night still completes the ritual.

  2. Set two fixed reminder times

Tap Edit reminder times. Pick a morning and an evening time that sit right after something you already do every day.

  3. Check off as you go, not after

When the reminder opens Today's plan, tap each step while you do it. The progress bar and the AM/PM counts update immediately.

  4. Glance at the week strip daily

On the home screen, check your day streak and the week strip. Treat a gap as a gap, then carry on with the next reminder.

  5. Scan for feedback every week or two

Take a face scan in similar light. Compare the readings with the last scan in the progress panel and adjust one step if the notes suggest it.

Frequently asked questions

What if I keep missing the evening routine?

Move the PM reminder earlier — to right after dinner, for instance — and shorten the evening list until it is something you will do. Consistency first, completeness later.

Does the app punish missed days?

No. The streak simply reflects consecutive days; a gap is shown as a gap and nothing else is lost.

Do reminders or check-offs use my AI scans?

No. Only face and product scans count toward your plan.

SkinCare AI provides general skincare wellness guidance only. Skin scan results are not a medical diagnosis and the app does not treat or prevent any condition. If you have a skin concern, consult a dermatologist or another qualified professional.

Try it with tonight's routine.

SkinCare AI: Skin Scanner is on the App Store. AI scans need a subscription (Weekly $4.99 · Monthly $9.99 · Monthly Pro $29.99); routine check-offs never cost a scan.
